Council is represented on a broad range of local and regional organisations and community groups. 
Community Committees
Australia Day Awards Committee

The Australia Day Awards Committee provides input into Australia Day celebrations. They promote the awards, review nominations and select the winners for the three categories of Australia Day awards. Committee members also provide support for the official Australia Day ceremony. The group meets up to five (5) times as required. Convening in August each year committee duties continue until February.

Bushfire Management Committee

The Bush Fire Management Committee is constituted under the NSW Rural Fires Act 1997, and requires land managers within a Local Government Area (including Council) to come together and prepare a local Bush Fire Risk Management Plan. This plan focuses on the prevention and mitigation of bush fire risks within the area, it also prepares a plan of works to address these risks. Other members of the committee include National Parks and Wildlife Service, Forestry Corporation, utility providers (power and water), Roads and Maritime NSW, Rail Authorities and others.

Maitland City Service Awards Committee

The Maitland City Service Awards program aims to recognise the members of the Maitland community who have, through their initiative and dedication, made a positive contribution to enhancing the lives of others in Maitland. The panel are responsible for awarding the City of Maitland Medal, City of Maitland Service Award and the Maitland City Council Volunteer Service Award.

Flood Plain Management Committee

Meeting quarterly, the Flood Plain Management Committee considers and provides input to Council on the preparation and implementation of the Flood Risk Management Plan, the Local Environment Plan (LEP) flood maps and Development Control Plans (DCP).

Friends of Maitland City Library

The Friends of Maitland City Library is a group of volunteers who support and promote Maitland City Library and its services to the community. Friends of Maitland City Library are involved in the annual library book sale, sponsoring the Write Now! writing challenge for school students and reading to Benhome residents.

Hall of Fame Committee

The Hall of Fame Committee is responsible for the assessment of applications and selection of Hall of Fame Inductees. Committee members will be selected for a four (4) year term in line with the NSW Local Government Elections.

Heritage Group

The Heritage Group has been operating since 1995 and strives to promote the conservation of the natural, cultural, built and Aboriginal heritage of the Maitland Local Government Area. The committee meets monthly and provides constructive support and comment to Council on heritage issues.

Hunter Valley Steamfest Planning Group

The Hunter Valley Steamfest Planning Group is a stakeholder based group that assists Council in the planning, promotion and delivery of the Hunter Valley Steamfest event annually.

Hunter Zone Rural Fire Service Liaison Committee

The Liaison Committee is a committee comprising Council staff and councillors in conjunction with Rural Fire Service (RFS) staff and volunteers. The Committee discusses a range of topics including the performance of the agreements between councils and the RFS within the local area, budgets, fire fighting vehicles, equipment and capital infrastructure.

Hydro Kurri Kurri Smelter 'Regrowth Kurri Kurri' Community Consultative Committee

Meeting monthly, this committee provides input into the future redevelopment of the Hydro Kurri Kurri smelter site. This input includes exploring options for future land use and how to deal with contaminated land.

Internal Audit Committee

The Internal Audit Committee is responsible for analysing, appraising and making recommendations following an audit review of Councils internal controls to ensure they are compliant, effective and efficient. They also act in an advisory capacity on new systems to ensure the adequacy of control measures.

Maitland Aerodrome Consultative Panel

Maitland Aerodrome Consultative Panel is comprised of a representatives from Royal Newcastle Aero Club (RNAC), Maitland City Council and two community representatives. The panel meets three times a year and is responsible for reviewing operating procedures, in accordance with the adopted Community Operational Undertaking , and to address any noise complaints received in respect of the aerodrome operations.

Maitland Health Advisory Committee

Local health committees are part of a Hunter New England Health program. The Committee's purpose is to provide leadership in the local community to ensure health services meet local community health needs and ensure the promotion and enhancement of the health of the community. The Committee meet the first Monday of every month.

Maitland Local Area Traffic Committee

The Maitland Local Area Traffic Committee is a technical review committee that meets on the first Thursday of every month. The committee provide advice to Council on traffic related issues that have been referred to it by Council.

Maitland Regional Art Gallery Members (MRAGM)

MRAGM has an active committee who meet regularly throughout the year to host and coordinate events, develop the MRAGM Newsletter and raise funds for the art gallery. MRAGM fundraising focuses on education events and programs, and acquisitions for the Collection.

Morpeth Museum Committee

The objective of the Morpeth Museum Committee is to collect, organise and conserve items of historical significance to the Maitland area, with a particular focus on Morpeth, and to make these items accessible to the community and tourists.

Public Libraries NSW (PLNSW) - Central East Zone

PLNSW represents the interests of public libraries and their users throughout NSW. They focus on improving library services and access to information resources for all people living in NSW. The committee meets quarterly and is comprised of key stakeholders.

Walka Water Works Reserve Section 355 Management Committee

The Walka Water Works Section 355 Management Committee meets every two months to advise and assist Council in establishing and reviewing its plans and policies for the future development of Walka Water Works.

Community Halls
Bruce Street Community Hall

The management group for the Bruce Street Community Hall promotes the use of the facility in accordance with determined community needs. The group meets monthly and assists Council with the day to day management of the bookings, maintenance and future needs of the facility.

Rutherford Community Hall

The management group for the Rutherford Community Hall promotes the use of the facility in accordance with determined community needs. The group meets monthly and assists Council with the day to day management of the bookings, maintenance and future needs of the facility.

Recreation Boards
Maitland Sports and Recreation Advisory Board

This group acts as a sounding board for the future planning and development of sport and recreation facilities within Maitland.

Maitland Park Recreation Board

The Maitland Park Recreation Board is responsible for providing feedback and advice to Council on the development of sport and recreation facilities within Maitland Park. The board also oversees the usage of park facilities to ensure all users adhere to the terms and conditions of use. The board meets on the third Thursday of every month.
