Cooks Square Park pitch ready for kick off after $1 million facilities upgrade

In a major score for local footballers, Maitland City Council has delivered $1 million worth of upgrades to Cooks Square Park in East Maitland.

Fully funded by the Australian Government, the training pitch has been extended into a full sized field with new irrigation, fencing and training standard floodlighting also installed.

’This improvement ensures Maitland Football Club has a top grade facility at their disposal, now and into the future,’ says Mayor Philip Penfold. ‘Maitland Council is proud to support this rapidly growing club by delivering important upgrades to their home grounds.’

Federal Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson MP says ‘I am proud to have delivered the funding which has brought necessary upgrades to Cooks Square Park, transforming it into a premier destination for local football.

‘This investment of $1 million goes beyond mere infrastructure; it represents our commitment to nurturing the health and wellbeing of our Maitland football community.

‘This achievement marks a significant milestone in our journey towards enhancing Maitland's sporting venues. These upgrades ensure modern facilities, creating better opportunities for our athletes to compete and it’s a real commitment to our community and its sporting future.’

Maitland FC President Steve Good says the club ‘can’t wait to use the upgraded training pitch as it now provides the club with the ability to train our Junior Development League children concurrently with our Premier Youth League Boys and Girls as they progress through the Premier League Pathways.’

Council has identified further improvement opportunities at Cooks Square Park and will continue to work with the Member for Paterson and the State and Federal Governments to explore future funding avenues.
