Council seeks nominations for annual awards

Maitland City Council is calling on the community to shine a light on outstanding individuals, organisations, and volunteers through its annual Awards and Recognition Program, with nominations accepted until Sunday 1 December 2024, at 11:59pm.

Mayor Philip Penfold said the program 'honours those who have made significant contributions to the Maitland community and beyond, celebrating the spirit of volunteerism and the impact of dedicated service.' 

‘They are an opportunity for Council to recognise the incredible contributions of our community members whose diverse talents and unwavering commitment enrich Maitland,’ Mayor Penfold said.  

'Whether through the arts, sports, or volunteer service, we want to celebrate those who make a positive impact in our region and inspire others to do the same.'

The program includes several esteemed awards:

  • Citizen of the Year: Celebrating individuals who have made notable contributions to Maitland in areas such as education, health, culture, and the environment.
  • Young Citizen of the Year: Recognising the exceptional commitment of young individuals under 25 to the Maitland community.
  • City of Maitland Medal: Awarded to a Maitland focused organisation or group for their outstanding voluntary service to Maitland and its citizens.
  • City of Maitland Service Award: Honouring individuals for their dedicated voluntary service to the Maitland community.
  • Sportsperson of the Year: Acknowledging an individual for significant achievements in non-professional sports within Maitland over the past year.
  • Creative Arts Person of the Year: Recognising artistic contributions through various forms of expression, including art, writing, music, and performance.
