Delivering key road safety improvements for Chisholm
Maitland City Council is delivering road safety improvements for a busy intersection at Chisholm, with work on a new roundabout set to begin in the new year.
Funded by the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, the $568,000 project will reconstruct the intersection of Tigerhawk Drive and Heritage Drive into a roundabout.
The intersection has recorded high accident rates in recent years, including several serious crashes, and Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold says this upgrade “will greatly improve road safety and traffic flow through the area."
"Chisholm is a rapidly growing suburb and we’re making sure we have the necessary road infrastructure in place to cope with high volumes of traffic and so we can keep our community safe," Mayor Penfold said.
Work on the new roundabout will begin Monday 6 January 2024 and continue during the school holidays to minimise traffic impacts.
During this time, the intersection will be closed with detours in place via Whitewater Street, Emperor Parade and Settlers Boulevard.
The new roundabout is expected to be completed by the end of February.
