Robins Oval wins major award

Howzat: Robins Oval snags major wicket at 2024 Community Cricket Awards

Maitland City Council has claimed top honours at the 2024 Community Cricket Awards, with Robins Oval in Maitland Park named Community Facility Project of the Year.

The win comes hot on the heels of Council completing a $1.9 million upgrade to the facility in 2023, which included a refurbished grandstand, changerooms and a new canteen, amenities building and storage area.

'Safe to say we were bowled over to find out Robins Oval had won this inaugural award,' said Mayor Philip Penfold.

‘This is a fantastic community facility that’s well used by local sporting groups. We’re grateful for their patience while we delivered important upgrades to the site last year, and we know they’ll be able to enjoy the facility for many years to come.’

Cricket Manager Hunter/Manning & Infrastructure Specialist Northern NSW, Gary Fisher described it as a 'deserving win for a fantastic, refurbished facility that compliments the aesthetic nature of the Oval.'

'Robins Oval is a great asset to cricket clubs in Maitland and the wider Hunter Valley, and Cricket NSW was proud to recognise it as the first winner of this new category.'

All NSW award winners, including Robins Oval, have now been nominated for the Cricket Australia Community Cricket Awards, to be announced in May 2024.
