It's lit: Literature Live returns with a fresh autumn lineup

Maitland libraries is excited to welcome audiences back this autumn with the return of its popular author talk series, Literature Live. 

The third season kicks off on Friday 7 March 2025 featuring a diverse lineup of acclaimed authors. From historical fiction and culinary storytelling to children’s literature and reflections on Australian history, the program offers a rich mix of stories and perspectives at East Maitland Library. 

“This season of Literature Live showcases an incredible mix of authors from various genres and backgrounds, ensuring there’s something for every reader,” says Maitland City Council Coordinator Community Participation Erin Pascall. 

“We’re excited to introduce fresh voices and perspectives to our lineup, and look forward to the community engaging with some of Australia’s most talented writers.” 

The season three lineup includes the following events, all hosted at East Maitland Library from 6pm to 7.30pm: 

  • The Golden Thread with Tea Cooper – On Friday 7 March, Tea Cooper opens the season with The Golden Thread, a compelling story set in early 20th-century Maitland, where a young woman uncovers a family secret that changes her life. 
  • Swimming Sydney with Chris Baker – On Friday 21 March, join Chris Baker as he explores Swimming Sydney, a reflective journey through 52 swims across Sydney's iconic waterways over a year, examining themes of friendship, history, family and self-discovery. 
  • The Joy of Writing for Children – On Friday 4 April, join a special panel discussion with Isobelle Carmody, Sami Bayly and Karen Hughes as they share their insights into creating engaging and memorable stories for young readers. 
  • Miles Franklin’s Forgotten Years – On Friday 2 May, Kerrie Davies will explore the personal struggles and hidden stories of iconic Australian author Miles Franklin, shedding light on the complexities of her life and enduring legacy. 
  • Cooking up Australia – On Friday 16 May, Lauren Samuelsson will celebrate Australia’s culinary heritage with A Matter of Taste, exploring how Women’s Weekly food editorials, recipes and memories have shaped Australian culture and history. 
  • Pictures of You with Emma Grey – On Friday 6 June, global bestselling author Emma Grey will close the third series of Literature Live with her latest novel, Pictures of You, which explores the complexities of love, grief and the choices we make.
