Landcare Week 2024: Landcare is for everyone

Landcare Week, celebrated from 5 to 11 August 2024, acknowledges members of our community who are actively working to restore, enhance and protect our natural environment.

Landcare volunteers meet regularly to maintain high quality bushland and restore degraded ecosystems. Beyond rehabilitation work, Landcare sites also provide habitat for many of our native species and provide peaceful environments for the community to visit.

This year, the theme of Landcare Week is ‘Landcare Is For Everyone’. We encourage you to get involved by joining one of our local groups:

  • Bolwarra Landcare works to establish and regenerate an area of bushland at John Wilkinson Sports Complex, partly adjoining Bolwarra Lagoon, through planting and ongoing maintenance.
  • Rutherford Landcare operates on around five acres of well established forest off Tannant Avenue, which offers beautiful stands of gum trees, native grasses and an abundance of birdlife.
  • East Maitland Landcare maintains 12 hectares of endangered Lower Hunter Spotted Gum Ironbark Forest at Kimberly Close through weeding and native planting activities.
  • Earthcare Park Landcare cares for 32 hectares of Tenambit Common, regenerating bushland and holding regular field days and environmental events.
  • Luskintyre Landcare works to establish and improve native habitat corridors for local fauna on private land around Luskintyre.
