Million-dollar skate park and playspace now open at Gillieston Heights

Maitland City Council has officially unveiled a new million-dollar recreation facility at Gillieston Heights, with work now complete on a skate park and playspace at Roy Jordan Oval.

Jointly funded by Council and the NSW Government’s Places to Play program, the new skate park features a flow bowl with a key hole transition, waterfall to a deep bowl and a mogul.

The existing playspace has been upgraded with new equipment while nature and water play elements, including a manual water pump, have been added as well as footpaths, picnic tables and shade.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold says the new facility “provides fantastic recreation opportunities for the people of Gillieston Heights and surrounds.”

“We’re proud to deliver this project, which will cater to a range of ages and abilities, and we look forward to seeing our community enjoying this great new facility,” Mayor Penfold said.

“The new skate park has an exciting and dynamic design which has been chosen by the local Gillieston Heights community,” Mr Scully said.

“The new skatepark is situated next to Roy Jordan Oval’s existing sporting fields to provide a great recreational hub for Gillieston Heights youth and sporting enthusiasts. I’m sure it will be a popular addition for everyone to enjoy.”
