New amenities on the way for Cooks Square Park, East Maitland

One of Maitland’s premier sporting facilities is shaping up for another major upgrade, with work set to begin on a new amenities building at Cooks Square Park, East Maitland.

Following a $1 million upgrade to the field’s training pitch, Maitland City Council has received $832,000 in funding to construct a brand new amenities building with upgraded male and female changerooms.

Federal Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson MP says ‘football players of Maitland will be pleased to hear about the upgrades to their sporting facilities, keeping with the standards appropriate for modern times.’

‘These much needed upgrades to both the female and male amenities will be built right in time to kick off the 2025 season,’ Ms Swanson said.

‘This is an absolute win for our local sporting community, as these slick, modern amenities will ensure that Maitland remains a premier destination for regional sport.’

Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty says the new facilities at Cooks Square Park will provide a new level of comfort for local and visiting sportspeople, including female players and referees.

‘The upgraded facilities at Cooks Square Park will support the growing participation in local sports in Maitland, particularly the continued growth of female sportspeople joining their local sports team, who will soon be able to get ready for their game in comfort, privacy and safety at the grounds.’

Maitland City Council’s Director City Services Jason Linnane says the new facility ‘will be a major boost for local footballers.’

‘The new amenities will be more modern, gender inclusive and cater to all abilities. It will also provide more opportunities for Maitland Football Club to grow into the future and improve outcomes for community sport.’

Maitland FC President Steve Good says the current amenities were built in the 1970’s and ‘this upgrade will help bring our facilities up to standard, particularly the female changerooms so we can provide our players and visiting athletes with an improved experience.’

Work will get underway from next week and is expected to wrap up by the end of January 2025.

Council previously installed a semi permanent changeroom on site which can be used by Maitland FC during construction, while visiting teams will continue using it once the project is completed.

This project is jointly funded by the NSW Government and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
