Safety enhancements proposed for High Street, Maitland and Belmore Road, Lorn
Maitland City Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to make critical road safety changes along High Street, Maitland and Belmore Road, Lorn.
Both roads have been earmarked for pedestrian safety improvements due to high foot traffic and vehicle volumes. These improvements include the implementation of a High Pedestrian Activity Area (HPAA) incorporating 40km/h speed limits, traffic calming measures such as raised crossings and additional signage.
The proposed changes would apply to High Street, Maitland between Ward Street and Victoria Street, and Belmore Road, Lorn from The Avenue to approximately 90 metres north of Allan Street.
Council's Operations Manager Transport & Infrastructure Engineering, Chris Pinchen says ‘although the HPAA focuses on vulnerable road users like pedestrians, these changes are implemented as part of a broader approach to achieving road safety objectives with the aim to reduce risks and prevent accidents on our road network.
'Feedback on this proposal will help us finalise plans to ensure both streets are safer for our community, for the future.'
