Share your vision for the future of Maitland libraries

Maitland City Council is inviting the community to contribute to a new framework that will shape the future of local library services.

The Maitland libraries Framework (2025-2030) will guide Council’s decision-making on library spaces, collections, services and delivery priorities.

“Maitland libraries have long been a hub for learning, creativity and community connection, with our first branch opening in 1946,” said Maitland City Council Manager Libraries and Learning Jo Smith.

“We’re committed to ensuring our libraries remain accessible, inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of our community, by leveraging technology, partnerships and continued engagement with local residents.”

This plan will also feed into Council’s broader Community Infrastructure Strategy (CIS), which is being developed to guide the long-term direction for community infrastructure provision including how Council plans, funds and delivers community infrastructure over the next 20 years.

By listening to feedback about Maitland’s libraries alongside other community infrastructure like playspaces, sportsgrounds and cultural facilities, Council can ensure Maitland has the priority infrastructure it needs for the future.

“Libraries are more than books; they’re vital community hubs and we want to hear how our libraries have transformed your life and how we can make them even better for the future," said Ms Smith.

Council is encouraging both regular visitors and non-users to provide their feedback on what’s working well, identify areas for improvement and explore ideas for future services.
