The best of what Maitland has to offer
I was more than happy this week to welcome 11 visitors from the USA who have come to Maitland as part of the Rotary Fellowship Exchange. They have connected with ten members of the East Maitland Rotary Club who have been hosting them in their homes this week.
The travellers have come to Maitland to learn about our area and our way of life, and they have been treated to a tour of the city. To keep them entertained, our local Rotarians planned out a special itinerary and the group has stopped in at Maitland Regional Art Gallery, Maitland Gaol, Morpeth, The Levee and Tocal Homestead, to name a few.
Maitland is very lucky to have such great assets within close proximity of each other. Whether it’s the gorgeous displays at MRAG, the spooky stories we learn during a tour at the Gaol, or the calm feeling you get when taking a drive through Morpeth, there is so much you can experience as a visitor in and around the city.
I wish our visitors all the best and I congratulate our local Rotarians for facilitating such a good experience for them.

No dampening the Riverlights spirit
On Saturday I visited The Levee Central Maitland and took part in the Riverlights Multicultural Festival proudly presented by Greater Bank.
While it was rainy at times, it did nothing to dampen the spirit of the festival and that in itself brought me a lot of joy. There was still so much music, dancing and fun being had, not to mention the amazing cultural diversity on display, which is the cornerstone of this event. It was also special to welcome over 60 new Australian citizens at the start of the event and this is an aspect of Riverlights I am hoping will continue long into the future. I must also make mention of the finale performance by Curious Legends and the spectacular Lantern Flotilla. It was a special way to end the night.
All in all it was another great event in Central Maitland and I am already looking forward to next year.
