To cater to the area's growing population and Maitland's increasing demand for outdoor sporting facilities, Chisholm has been identified as the home for a brand new sportsground. Located at a 4.56 hectare site at Billabong Parade, this will be Chisholm's first sportsground and will help meet the needs of our active community.
While plans are still being finalised, the project will include a level playing surface to accommodate AFL, cricket or double fields for soccer and rugby, a synthetic cricket wicket, field flood lighting, an amenities building, parking for approximately 80 spaces, fencing, concrete paths and landscaping. It will cater for sport and recreation opportunities within the Thornton North urban release area, for both senior and junior competitions.
This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government's Accelerated Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Round 3 through the Department of Planning and Environment, with $5.505 million secured for project delivery and associated works. A further $1.835 million will be contributed by Council, bringing the total cost of the project to $7.34 million.
The project will now move into a detailed design phase, with the sportsground expected to be delivered by June 2026.
