Description
Council meets twice a month on Tuesdays at 5.30pm, with the meeting and reports available to members of the public. The process for staging meetings is governed by Council’s Code of Meeting Practice.
The code sets out how meetings will be made accessible, orderly, effective and efficient through appropriate tools and materials, including meeting papers, the rules of debate and how individuals can address Council on matters to be considered.
The Local Government Act 1993 requires Council to exhibit and adopt a new Code of Meeting Practice within the first 12 months of a new term. Councils must adopt a code of meeting practice that incorporates the mandatory provisions of the Model Meeting Code as released by the Office of Local Government.
The draft code has been revised to incorporate options to permit individual councillors to attend meetings by audio-visual link, and to hold meetings by audio-visual link in the event of natural disasters or public health emergencies. Changes are highlighted in the exhibition copy.
The draft code is on public exhibition from 28 April to 25 May 2022. Submissions will be accepted until 8 June 2022.
