Description
Maitland City Council’s draft Regulation and Compliance Policy 2025 incorporates a strategic approach to regulatory functions, ensuring consistency, transparency, and alignment with legislative requirements. It outlines the principles guiding compliance activities, enforcement actions, and community engagement to promote voluntary compliance. Council’s Regulation and Compliance Policy 2025 has been reviewed and modified to reflect updated legislative frameworks, strengthen risk-based compliance approaches, and enhance procedural clarity for enforcement actions. The revisions also incorporate feedback from stakeholders to ensure the policy remains practical, equitable, and responsive to community expectations.
The proposed changes of the Policy are summarised as follows:
- Streamlining and condensing the information provided in the Policy to allow it to be easily read and interpreted.
- Incorporation of a risk-based approach to compliance to prioritise enforcement activities.
- Enhanced procedural clarity for issuing notices, penalties, and escalations.
- Refinement of roles, responsibilities and the teams purpose within the compliance framework to improve accountability, efficiency and engagement.
