Born and educated in Maitland, David Power was a successful distance runner. He represented Australia in the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games where he won a Bronze medal. In 1958 he won two gold medals at the Commonwealth games and then two silver medals at the 1962 Commonwealth games. In addition he won six gold and two silver medals at the national championships. In 1999, David was inducted into the Sports Australia Hall of Fame and the Athletics Australia Hall of Fame in 2010.
