Jane Taylor had a remarkable tennis career that began in her adolescence and spanned over 20 years. She represented Maitland at regional, state, and national levels. In 1984 at age 11, she became the youngest person to win Maitland Sportsperson of the Year and was the highest-ranking tennis player in the NSW Girls 12 years and under category.
At the age of 13, Jane won her first international tennis title and went on to win numerous International Tennis Federation Singles and Doubles Titles. Notably, at age 15 Jane became the Australian Singles Champion in 1988 in both the under 16 and under 18 categories.
Jane made her debut in the Australian Open Singles in 1989, reaching the 3rd round in 1994 and the 2nd round in the Doubles Championship in 1995. In recognition of her achievements, she was named Maitland Citizen of the Year in 2000.
