Asset remediation and renewal a key focus in draft operational plan and budget
Maitland City Council invites the community to have their say on the draft strategic plans for service delivery, infrastructure, and financial sustainability for the next four years and beyond.
Delivering Maitland's Future, including the Delivery Program 2025–2029 and Operational Plan 2025–26, Fees and Charges 2025-26 and the Resourcing Maitland's Future strategy, including key plans related to Council's workforce, finances and infrastructure, are now on public exhibition until Monday 19 May 2025.
General Manager Jeff Smith said the plans build on the foundations of the community's long -term vision, outlined in Maitland's Future, the Community Strategic Plan, endorsed by Council in March this year.
"This exhibition is about showing our community how we plan to turn our shared vision of a connected city with thriving communities into action," Mr Smith said.
“We’re focused on delivering services that matter to our community and smarter solutions, ensuring every dollar spent contributes to a thriving Maitland. Our commitment to continuous improvement ensures we’re always looking for ways to enhance the value we provide.
"Our draft plans explain how we'll deliver services, prioritise projects, manage our assets and invest in our people."
Highlights of the draft plans include:
- An operating budget of $163.8 million and a capital works investment of $65.4 million for 2025 –2026, including the highest ever investment in asset remediation and renewal by Maitland City Council.
- Launching FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) from 30 June 2025, expanding waste services and improving sustainability.
- Construction of a new community centre and the Sophia Waters sportsground and playground at Chisholm.
- Construction of new amenities at Max McMahon Oval, Rutherford.
- Next stage of enhancement works at the Maitland Resource Recovery Facility.
Council is encouraging residents to explore the draft plans and have their say.
"This is your chance to see what we're planning to deliver and help refine it," Mr Smith said.
"We want to ensure our delivery is as strong as our vision, and community feedback helps guide that."
