Burton Automotive keeps the legacy alive at Hunter Valley Steamfest 2025

The sights, sounds and steam of yesteryear will roll into Maitland once again when Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest returns on 12 and 13 April 2025.

Longtime supporter Burton Automotive Group has reaffirmed its commitment to this much-loved event, which is set to draw thousands of visitors and train enthusiasts, continuing as the naming rights sponsor for another year.

“We are excited to continue our proud and longstanding partnership with Steamfest,” said Burton Automotive Dealer Principal Norm Burton OAM.

“Aside from the wonderful spectacle for our community to enjoy, it is a fantastic way to show where we came from and the importance of the train and railways in building Maitland and the Hunter Valley to the wonderful place we call home today.”

Train lovers are in for a treat in 2025, with the Steamfest Rail Program presented by Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) welcoming locomotives 3265 and 3526 to the lineup. These iconic engines will take passengers on journeys to destinations across the Hunter Valley, including Branxton, Paterson and Port Waratah.

A key highlight of the weekend will include the annual ARTC Great Train Race, which will see both steam locomotives go head-to-head against a Tiger Moth aeroplane in an adrenaline-fueled battle of speed and steam.

Beyond the rail action, visitors can explore The Bloomfield Group Steam Rally at the newly named Garnham Grounds, a tribute to former long-serving Steamfest Chairman Peter Garnham and his wife Kelly for their dedicated service to Maitland. The rally will showcase antique machinery, steam-powered engines and more.

Car lovers won’t want to miss the Altapac Show ‘n’ Shine on Sunday 13 April, where more than 500 classic cars will be on display alongside food stalls, live entertainment and family-friendly fun.

Councillor Ken Jordan, who has taken over as Steamfest Chairman from Peter Garnham, expressed his enthusiasm for the event.

“Steamfest is not just about celebrating our steam heritage – it’s about bringing people together, supporting local businesses and showcasing Maitland as a must-visit destination.

“I look forward to playing a role in its continued success and ensuring it remains a highlight of our regional events calendar,” said Councillor Jordan.
