Fire and light ready to ignite Maitland’s winter nights

Get ready to ignite your senses this winter as Maitland City Council presents Luminous, a brand-new festival celebrating fire, light and wonder on Friday 20 June and Saturday 21 June 2025 at The Levee Shared Zone in Central Maitland.

Coinciding with the longest night of the year, Luminous will transform The Levee into a multi-sensory wonderland, featuring lighting installations, fiery spectacles, live performances and immersive experiences that will mesmerise visitors of all ages.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold said the festival is an exciting new addition to the city’s event calendar, set to draw visitors from across the region and beyond.

“Luminous is a first-of-its-kind event for Maitland, designed to celebrate the wonder of winter while showcasing our vibrant city. With its spectacular light displays, fire performances and interactive experiences, Luminous will offer something special for locals and visitors alike.

“Bringing an event of this scale to Maitland not only offers a memorable experience for attendees but also supports local businesses, boosts tourism and highlights what makes our city a great place to live and visit.”

Luminous will include a fireworks display over the Hunter River on Saturday 21 June, pop-up bars, food trucks along the Shared Zone and a variety of themed spaces, such as a speakeasy-style bar and a fire cooking station.

“This free event is expected to attract thousands of visitors and become a signature winter festival for Maitland, further enhancing the city’s reputation as a must-visit destination for arts, culture and events," said Mayor Penfold.

Luminous will take place on Friday 20 June from 5pm to 8pm and Saturday 21 June from 11am to 8pm. For more information and event updates, visit www.maitland.nsw.gov.au/luminous.
