Maitland City Council staff meet with Data Inseyets at the Maitland Administration Centre

Innovative data partnership helps Maitland Council crunch the numbers like never before

A recent partnership with a local business intelligence and data consultancy is yielding results for Maitland City Council.

The collaboration between Council and Maitland-based firm Data Inseyets has seen the former’s datamart – a large ‘lake’ where data from multiple systems is stored – used in new and innovative ways for Council’s senior leadership.

“Maitland is one of only two councils in the Hunter to have built its own datamart, and now, through this collaboration with Data Inseyets, we’re able to take that data and find new and clever applications for it,” Maitland City Council Executive Manager Customer and Digital Services Mark Margin said.

“Using applications like Microsoft PowerBI to build real-time data dashboards and budgetary reports, we’re able to gather better, more accurate real-time information and, in turn, use that to make more informed, data-driven decisions.”

Mr Margin said there were “other applications still to come that would further improve and automate Council’s internal workflows and improve efficiency.”

“This is just the start. We’re looking to the future to see how we can start pulling in data from more sources and streamline processes in areas like waste services and asset investment too.

“Council is also proud to have achieved these outcomes by partnering with and leveraging the expertise of a local small business like Data Inseyets.

“Their insight has proven invaluable in taking the data we were holding onto and developing a suite of clear, visual solutions for our leadership team to use.”

Data Inseyets Owner David Sullivan said as a local business, it was “especially rewarding to work with forward-thinking organisations in our community.

“Our internal expertise spans all mainstream BI platforms, scripting languages and automation tools, enabling us to tailor solutions to any challenge and deliver precise, impactful results,” Mr Sullivan said.

“By applying these capabilities, we’ve helped the Council transform their data into clear insights that drive better decisions.

“As the relationship evolves, we feel there will be dramatic improvements not only in data analysis capabilities but also in process automation.

“It’s exciting to see how these solutions are already improving operations, and we look forward to exploring even more opportunities to innovate and deliver value for our local community.”
