Making a splash: Maitland's pools score near-perfect safety rating

Maitland City Council has proven the city’s pools are swim-ply the best, after achieving a near-perfect score in this year’s Royal Life Aquatics Facility Safety Assessment (AFSA).

The AFSA provides insight into a facility’s safe pool operations in comparison to Australian Standards, and involves a rigorous 40-point aquatic safety checklist.

This year, Maitland Aquatic Centre was given a 99 per cent safety rating out of 100, which is up from last year’s score of 98 per cent, and it also maintained a 99 per cent five-star Safety Partner Accreditation score.

East Maitland Aquatic Centre was the big winner, retaining its 98 per cent safety rating from 2024 and achieving a perfect 100 per cent five-star score.

Maitland City Council Coordinator Aquatics, Suellen Goyne says this is “a huge win for our community.”

“Our aquatics team works extremely hard each and every day to maintain high standards at our facilities and these results prove our strong commitment to aquatic safety,” Ms Goyne said.

“The real winners are our community who can rest assured they will continue to enjoy a safe and fun environment when visiting Maitland’s aquatic centres.”
