It's lit: Author talk series set to return to Maitland Libraries this spring

Maitland Libraries’ popular author talk series, Literature Live, is returning this spring with a fresh lineup of engaging author events.  

Running monthly from September to December, the series will showcase established and emerging writers, kicking off on Tuesday 10 September at East Maitland Library with acclaimed journalist Michael Brissenden discussing his latest novel, Smoke. 

‘We’re looking forward to bringing Literature Live back for a second season, offering a dynamic mix of authors and genres – from gripping crime thrillers to deeply personal memoirs,’ says Maitland City Council Coordinator Community Participation Erin Pascall. 

‘This spring series is all about bringing together different voices and stories to celebrate the joy of reading and storytelling with the community.’ 

Following Michael Brissenden’s event, the spring series will feature: 

  • Book launch with Judy Williams –  On Sunday 29 September at 3.00pm, join Judy Williams at East Maitland Library as she launches Navigating Money, Markets and Men, providing practical advice for women on achieving financial independence and self fulfillment. 
  • Afternoon tea with Sophie Green – On Saturday 19 October at 3.00pm, spend an afternoon with bestselling author Sophie Green at East Maitland Library as she discusses her heartwarming novel Art Hour at the Duchess Hotel, a tale of friendship, new beginnings and self discovery. 
  • Stories My Grandmother Didn’t Tell Me with Andrea Putnis – On Friday 8 November at 6.00pm, join author Andra Putnis at East Maitland Library for an evening discussing her memoir Stories My Grandmothers Didn't Tell Me, exploring her family's hidden history during World War II and the migrant experience in Australia. 
  • World Philosophy Day with David Braddon-Mitchell – On Thursday 21 November at 11.00am, join Professor David Braddon-Mitchell at Maitland Town Hall for a World Philosophy Day event exploring the future of artificial intelligence (AI), consciousness theories and ethical questions surrounding AI self awareness. 
  • Criminal Minds: Women Writing Crime – On Friday 6 December at 6.00pm, attend the thrilling conclusion of the spring series at East Maitland Library, featuring bestselling crime writers Hayley Scrivenor and Lee Christine as they discuss their new novels and explore the evolution of crime writing.
