Noel Pidding was born and lived in Maitland for many years. He was a successful rugby league player who began his career in Maitland in 1944 and then played for the St George Dragons, Eastern Suburbs Roosters, NSW and Australia. Noel was an exceptional goal kicker and made 35 appearances for Australia, scoring 31 tries and kicking 159 goals between 1948 and 1954. He is a member of the Hunter Sporting Hall of Fame and was named one of Maitland Pickers top 20 players of all time.
