Where to get support
Recovery can be a difficult and emotional process. The time it takes a community to recover can vary depending on the scale of the disaster, the level of preparation and resourcing, inequities that may already exist, and the extent of social cohesion, connection and community assets. There are a range of services and support available to the community when recovering from a disaster.
Council support
After a disaster, Council can assist with the clean-up efforts and coordinate repairs to public assets such as roads, parks, drainage and trees. We can also assist with guidance on financial support and grants as well as guidance to help support your recovery.
Damaged roads, footpaths and gutters
Council can help with the restoration of damaged roads, footpaths, tree removal and more to help ensure the safety of the community as they return home.
You can report damage to Council assets through MyCouncil.
Lost or found pets
If you have lost your pet during a natural disaster, it’s important to lodge your pet missing with the NSW Pet Registry as soon as possible. Please check with local vets, animal welfare or the Maitland Animal Management Facility to see if your pet has been found.
If you find a lost pet, you can report through MyCouncil.
Rates assistance
Residents experiencing financial hardship after a disaster can contact Council to check their eligibility for a rates payment plan or a hardship application.
