Maitland embraces the Sydney Writers' Festival experience

Maitland Libraries is partnering with the 2024 Sydney Writers’ Festival (SWF) for a three day Live and Local event showcasing storytelling and literature.

From Thursday 23 to Saturday 25 May, Maitland Libraries will host a series of author chats and discussions, offering attendees the opportunity to connect directly with acclaimed writers, delve into their creative processes and explore narratives that shape our world.

‘Our Live and Local event is a three day celebration of literature and community, and we’re delighted to collaborate with Sydney Writers’ Festival to bring this enriching experience to Maitland,’ says Coordinator Community Participation Erin Pascall.

‘From Thursday to Saturday, the Maitland Libraries team will deliver a series of exciting events that will entertain, enlighten and spark meaningful conversations.’

On Thursday 23 and Friday 24 May, attendees can attend free sessions livestreamed from the Sydney Writer’s Festival to East Maitland Library featuring acclaimed authors Benjamin Law and Abdulrazak Gurnah.

The main event will take place at Maitland Town Hall on Saturday 25 May from 10.00am to 3.00pm and feature a lineup of distinguished authors including Trent Dalton (Boy Swallows Universe) and ABC journalist Leigh Sales. The Town Hall will connect live to the Sydney stage and allow Maitland attendees to ask questions of the authors.
