After growing up in the small village of Moonbi north of Tamworth, Cr Don Ferris moved to Maitland in 2009 and is the proud father of four daughters. During the week, Don works in land management for Hunter Water and at a cellar door in Pokolbin on Saturdays.

He’s a keen sportsperson, having been involved in various clubs over the years including the Maitland Mavericks Baseball Club, and enjoys playing indoor cricket and watching his daughters play netball. Don is passionate about preserving Maitland’s rich history, unique bushland and creating more green spaces to encourage people to get active outdoors. He’s also an avid Landcare advocate who's always keen to plant some trees.

Having previously served one term as a councillor, Don is eager to see improvements to Maitland's sport and recreational facilities, as well as promoting shared pathways. 'Active transportation should be something we continue to encourage as it has positive impacts on traffic and our health.'

'Maitland is the beating heart of the Hunter Valley and we are very lucky to live here. I want to see Maitland continue to thrive and grow sustainably and promote development that improves our quality of life and makes future generations proud.'
