We encourage active ageing and want to celebrate the many benefits that the ageing population bring to our community.
Maitland’s population is ageing, reflective of the national trend, with the proportion of the population aged 65+ slightly increasing from 14.3% in 2016 to 15.6% in 2021. The proportion of the population classified as elderly, (75+) is 6.5%, lower than the NSW figure of 7.9%.
Seniors Festival
The next Seniors Festival will take place from 11 to 24 March 2024. The theme of this year's festival is 'Reach Beyond' and celebrates the role older people play in our communities and their contributions.
On Saturday 23 March, join our Seniors Festival Special event at Maitland Town Hall and experience hilarious comedy, indulge in a delicious lunch and foster community connections.
After the laughs, join us for our Seniors Festival mini expo in the Evans Room at Maitland Town Hall, which is free and open to all. Don’t miss out on this fantastic day of comedy, community and connection.
During the festival dates, also enjoy free access to both of Maitland’s Aquatic Centres, including recreational swimming and aqua fitness classes. No photo evidence required for entry.
A wide variety of events will be held during across the two week festival encouraging older people to get involved in art, fitness, outdoor, live music and social activities.
